The Confraternita dell’Assunta is located in the chapel of the same name where at dawn on Holy Saturday of April 23, 2011 the Procession of Mysteries begins. The original chapel, one of the most ancient of the area, was smaller than the current one. During the 1500s it was also the Chiesa Madre (Mother Church) under the name of the Spirito Santo, and until the first half of the 1700s it was recognized by the name of San Nicola. Next to the name Santo di Myra appears also that of Ecclesia Sanctae Mariae Angelorum. The day after the birth of the congregation, mentioned for the first time in the parish registers in 1713, it was called Ecclesia Sanctae Mariae Assumptionis.
The ancient Greek chapel was partially demolished, expanded and then rebuilt in 1729. On November 12, 1790, Ferdinand IV signed the Royal Assent of Approval for the foundation and rules of the Confraternita dell’Assunta di Botrugno.
