Dry stone walls, small and narrow streets, cutting “chiancole”, horse neigh, sounds of whip, and soft light of torches of a mankind that still suffers…and Jesus passes! He crosses the heart of the town of “trulli”, walking among a crowd of actors, walk-ons and spectators performing the Passion of Christ toward the Golgotha.
“For thirty-three years, every year, the young people belonging to the community of S. Antonio of Alberobello have been working with passion and enthusiasm to perform the revival of the Passion. This represents an occasion to think about the sufferings and difficulties of the world and the sense of our existence. It is a moment full of extraordinary and intense spirituality as well as an important cultural and artistic performance: one of the most characteristic and moving event of the Holy Week in Apulia that every year attract thousands of visitors coming from all Italy More than two hundreds appearances and walk-ons play their role first across a natural scenery of white stones and olive groves, then through the town centre of the Capital of trulli to evoke the Gospels: living stones thrown beyond the space and time of humanity. Every year the white stones of Alberobello preserve and live again such impenetrable mystery: a true Passion that year by year on Holy Friday rewrites its ancient, yet new myth.
