During Holy Thursday pilgrimage is made to the various churches to visit the "sepulchres", this lasts well into the night. The "sepulchre" in the church of San Benedetto of the Confraternity of Saint Anthony the Abbot (Confraternita di Sant’Antonio Abate) is particularly unusual, as a sign of devotion to the Dead Christ it is adorned with the "Grain of the Sepulchre" locally known in dialect as "lu ‘rene dlu subbuleche". During the first days of Lent, the devout plant grain in clay plates, and caring for the seedlings with love and devotion place them in dark rooms, cupboards and closed trunks, where they grow but take on a yellow colour, so that for Holy Wednesday they are ready to thickly and luxuriantly adorn the altar of repose, crowned with plants of chickling vetch or lentils. The clay plates are also artistically decorated, with colourful ribbons.
On Good Friday the church of San Francesco (the base of the noble congregation "della Morte" since 1904) is the starting point for the emotionally moving Procession of the Dead Christ which leaves the church as the twilight descends, with the four young men carrying the statue on their shoulders rotating the burden periodically with another group of four. After the statue of the Dead Christ comes the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, which according to tradition is carried by from four to twelve young women. The statue is preceded by the "Calvary": a large wooden cross, with all the relative symbols, placed on a mount. The characteristic feature of this Procession is the large number of girls and young women dressed in black who carry the "Symbols": the lanterns, the dice, the ropes, the hammer, the pliers, the spear, the sponge, the red robe, the crown of thorns, the head of Christ, the heart of red velvet with the crown of Magdalene, and many more. The Procession is divided into two parts; the first makes its way through the old town centre; the other, with the Madonna dressed in black, makes its way along the main street to Piazza Beneficenza where the "Madonna encounters her divine Son".
